Getting closer to the light, looking for a point of reference, to understand the world and ourselves better’, may sound like a beautiful metaphor. Many poets, for example, find in the light an ally to protect them from the shadows of their personal failures. Poets and a few painters.

Looking at the paintings of Marie-Antoinette Courtens, I felt the congeniality between two artistical languages, that are closer to each other than many people think: One paints in images, the other paints in words, but both are trying to give way to their artistic expressions. Our painter knows this. Furthermore, being an expressive artist and a photographer at the same time, she is obsessed with light, to catch it, to decode it, to understand it. This desire finds her looking for light in contrasts. How wonderful does Marie-Antoinette Courtens show this mysterious light. Her paintings tell us about an intimate adventure. An adventure supported by a woman struggling with her art, to show atmosphere, gloss and truth, of impressions that catch her attention in countryside’s. These impressions arise from her careful way of looking, as if it we re almost inside of herself, to transform them later into colors and figures that appear as they are: like an imaginary self-portrait of the emotional impact that has caused by the light left in the soul. Naked, complex and dazzling. Like love in silence.
